Luxeon LEDs

Luxeon LEDLuxeon (High Brightness) LEDs – A LED is a compound semiconductor device that converts electricity to light by the passage of electric charges through a duly treated silicium junction - LED is therefore a diode that at a certain tension of about 3.5V starts emitting light. The emitted light is really pure (monochromatic) and the colour depends on the type of impurities which are purposely put in the silicium. The white light emitted by High Brightness LEDs that are incorporated in our product range is the result of an initial blue light transformed by a phosphor layer, thus emitting the white light.

Power Supplies/Drivers for Luxeon LEDs - Luxeon LEDs work in constant current and therefore the tension on the LED may be changed by the light colour, by the temperature and by the construction tolerances of the LED itself. The driver must therefore control the current in the circuit with the greatest precision – too much current destroys the LEDs in few seconds while insufficient current decreases drastically its light efficiency. All our LED power supplies respect the maximum current values recommended by the LED manufacturer LUXEON, thus ensuring a long life for the LED applications. In order to grant a constant current, all LEDs must be connected in series, parallel connections as commonly used for halogen lamps will destroy the LEDs in a short time.

Life duration of Luxeon LEDs - The life duration of Luxeon LEDs depends on two key factors, working temperature and current. The drivers we supply ensure that the current always remains within the estimated limits granting an excellent working temperature. The heat emitted by Luxeon LEDs is dissipated by a special aluminium board on which the diodes are soldered. Overloading or a lack of air circulation contributes to a rise in temperature. High Brightness LEDs have a relatively low temperature limit of 85-100° measured on the diode and must therefore be installed in aerated rooms, away from other heat sources.

White light colour of High Brightness LEDs - The light colour of LEDs is classified in "warm white" (3.000 to 4.000°K) and “cool white” (5.000 to 8000°K). These classifications are in turn subdivided every 1.000°K. This means that there may be slight tolerances in colour, therefore when reordering it is important that you refer to the colour code of the previously purchased LEDs.

Dimmability - Drivers for Luxeon LEDs must work in constant current in order to have the stabilised output necessary for the long life duration of LEDs. Luxeon LEDs have a fixed and therefore undimmable junction tension, unless our special drivers PLD and LLD controlled in PWM (Pulse with Modulation) are used.

Radial LEDs

Radial LEDRadial LEDs - A LED is a compound semi-conductor device that converts electricity to light by the passage of electric charges through a duly treated silicium junction. LED is therefore a diode that at a certain tension of about 3.5V starts emitting light. The emitted light is really pure (monochromatic) and the colour depends on the type of impurities which are purposely put in the chip.

Power Supplies/Drivers for LED modules - Standard LEDs work constantly at 20mA. On our modules LEDs connect in series through a resistance enabling constant tension. Every module has its own supply tension and can be connected in parallel mode to other modules with the same tension. The current changes according to the number of the LEDs mounted on the module.

Life duration of LEDs - The life duration of standard LEDs depends on two key factors, the working temperature and the supply tension.  The life duration of LEDs is dependent on correct installation.

White light colour of LEDs - The light colour of LEDs is classified in “warm white” (2800°K to 4000°K) and “cool white” (5000°K to 8000°K). This means that there may be slight tolerances in colour.

Dimmability - Our drivers for radial LEDs are not dimmable.

Light beam - The light of 5mm LEDs has a fixed light beam of 10-30° dependant on the integrated lens.

SMD LEDs

SMD LEDsSMD LEDs  - Are known as Surface Mounted LEDs. These are used in forms of strip lights, both fixed and flexible.

Power Supplies/Drivers for LED modules - The LED strips we offer with SMD LEDs require Direct Current Power Supplies

Life duration of LEDs - Average rated life is 50,000 hours

Dimmability - With use from right power supply these SMD LEDs can be dimmed
